Blogging and Me

journey.png

Here we go on Day 1 of a 30-day journey.

I stumbled across a blogging Facebook group one day and after some consideration I decided to actively participate. This means I have joined the “30 Day Blogging Challenge.” Please click on the link below for information. https://www.facebook.com/groups/30DayBloggingChallenge/

What does this mean for me? Well, it means that I am finally going to have to be committed about blogging. However, this is something I want to do and always seem to find excuses for not doing what I love…writing.

For the next 30 days, all of my posts will both appear on the Facebook group as well as on my blog here. I will pick different subjects that are meaningful to me and go from there. I definitely have some pet peeves and areas of interest. Of course, the world’s current events always seem to lead into a discussion of some sort. In fact, my last post was about Pokémon Go!

I might even “cheat” a bit and ask my son to share a post. He is just 19, but an extremely creative and talented writer. I wish I could take all the credit, but I can’t. I do like to think he got some of it from me though. 😉

A little background about my love for writing.

I remember starting what would end up being an extremely meaningful and rewarding pen pal experience with my grandpa who lived on the other side of the country. I think I was around eight or nine years old when I began the adventure. At the ripe old age of nine, I began keeping the letters my grandpa wrote to me. At such a young age, I have no idea where I got the foresight to keep his wonderful letters. But I did. I am SO GLAD I did.

It was then I realized how much fun it is to write. I could write about anything to my grandpa and he was thrilled. His letters in reply were full of grammar and spelling way above my current grade level. However, they encouraged me to learn. HE encouraged me to learn. Yes, he would correct my spelling and grammar and he would comment on my penmanship. But, that has only made me a better writer.

My grandpa has long ago passed. But, I have kept those letters. They are preserved in page protectors in several 3-ring binders. When I am feeling disgruntled, upset, and frustrated with myself and the world, I read his letters. I feel transported back to summers spent with him and my grandma when I was just a kid. I remember so many fun activities and good times spent together. I can still picture his face and I can still hear his voice. He will always be my favorite pen pal.

Through the years I have continued to write. For me, it has become one of the best ways to explain myself, to express myself, and to comfort myself.

Writing is personal. Writing is creative. Writing is this soul-searching journey with rewards all along the paths.

Come join me for the next 30-days (at least). We’ll go through this journey together!

  1. Good luck tackling this challenge! I was wary to publish onto my Facebook, and Twitter and everything else when I started, but the response has been encouraging. Hopefully it is for you as well.

I write and publish a post everyday, and have been doing so for 50+ days now, so I promise you it’s possible. I also promise you that you will get faster, meet more people, tap into more creativity, and find more enjoyment in the process (at least I know I have).

I enjoyed your background information – it’s always great to mix with people who are passionate about writing. Again, good luck!
